Two boys golf teams from the KCII listening area can start making State Tournament plans after their performance Tuesday at the Class 1A District Meet at Heritage Oaks in Wapello. The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves were District Champions with a team score of 350. The Wolves were led on the day by Justin Knipfer with his 85 overall, finishing in fifth place. Other WMU cards included Carter Loyd 86, Konner Kinneberg 87, Max Edwards and Cody Milks with 92s and Grant Anderson 106. After the meet, all six Wolves and head coach Mitch Wachs joined KCII Sports to talk about the day, the championship and going to State.

Wachs said, “What we showed today is our remarkable consistency all year. We didn’t do anything different. From our preparation to our final score. This is who we are, we’ve been here all year. We were ranked eighth coming in here and we walk away first because we did what we did all year long and I’m really proud of them!”

Knipfer, Loyd, Kinneberg, Edwards, Milks and Anderson added, “We’re excited, ready for more golf! It was awesome, especially for the seniors. We’ve never made it. Missed it by one place last year. This was really fun, really nerve-racking waiting for the scores to come in. It felt good. We had high expectations for golf coming into the season.”

The Keota Eagles were team district runners-up, by a single shot, finishing second with a 351. Top Keota cards belonged to the Kindreds, with Cole and Billie firing 86s, in eighth and 10th place respectively. Other Eagles included Tanner Waterhouse 88, Sawyer Stout 91, Brennan McGuire 93 and Conner Strand 100.

The Sigourney Savages and Hillcrest Academy Ravens both wrapped up their years at the District meet Tuesday, shooting matching overall scores of 362 with the Savages edging ahead of Hillcrest into fourth on the fifth score cardback. Top Sigourney rounds were Cain Weber and Solon Yates each at 89, taking 21st and 22nd respectively, followed by Isaac Bruns 90, Brock Alderson 94 and Ike Molyneux and Josh Wyatt both 104. Hillcrest was led by Liam Schrock’s 84 to finish fourth. Other Raven rounds included Seth Ours 88, Rowan Miller 89, Lawson Schrock 101, Ethan Yoder 110 and Matthew Chalupa 112.
