The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team opened the 1A district tournament with a win Tuesday at home over Sigourney-Keota 3-0. Peyton Fox put on an offensive show for the Golden Hawks, scoring a natural hat trick with a pair of first half goals, then finishing the feat with an insurance tally after the break. That was more than enough for the defense, led by keeper Joe Hall with a save and clean sheet. Hall, Jesse Stultz and Matt Troyer all had assists on Fox goals in the match. After the action, Golden Hawks Fox, Hall, Stultz and Troyer joined KCII Sports to talk about the win.

Hall said, “(Peyton) Fox scored three times. I think a big part of that was his speed and making good runs. My assist was a little different because I was goalie. In that situation, I’m just trying to get the ball as far up field as I can. It took a good bounce and Fox was in the right place.”

Stultz continued, “We were moving the ball around well. We want to give them enough space so they can get the ball right where they want it to be.”

Troyer added, “(With the pass), we’re trying to lead them on so they can take it and carry it from there to take a shot.”

Fox finished, “(My favorite goal) was probably the first one, because it was off of a bounce, and then I hit it with my head, then I beat the defenders and got off a good shot.”

Mid-Prairie finished with 18 shots on goal and had two corner kicks. The Golden Hawks are now 9-7 on the year and advance to the second round of districts Monday at Hillcrest Academy. SK finishes the season at 1-10.
