The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team is looking to make some program history today at the Class 2A Regional Final meet in West Liberty. The Hawks are trying to make it three straight trips to the State Tournament, a first for Golden Hawk girls golf. They enter the day ranked No. 7 in Class 2A in the final poll of the year from the Iowa Golf Coaches Association with a 44-5 overall record after advancing through the first round of Regionals Friday in Kalona. The Golden Hawks shot 379 to open the playoffs last week, finishing second in the team race to advance. On the year, Mid-Prairie has a team average of 377 per 18 holes with a 370 low. Individually, five Hawks have 18-hole averages under 100, led by Madi Davidson at 93, with Gabi Robertson at 95, Addison English 97, and Elliot Debler and Morgyn Bender at 98. In the final individual 2A poll of the year, all six Hawks are ranked in the top 100 in the state, led by Davidson No. 31, Robertson No. 39, Debler No. 49, Bender No. 52, English No. 53 and Olivia Swartzentruber No. 82. The Golden Hawks were Regional Final Champions a season ago at Williamsburg.
The Hawks will be joined today in West Liberty by Anamosa, No. 32 Mediapolis, No. 3 Oelwein, Tipton, Union La Porte City and the No. 19 home Comets. There are 15 players ranked in the top 100 of 2A in today’s field. Action starts at 9a.m. and continues the rest of the day at the West Liberty Golf Course.
