Earlier this month, Mid-Prairie hosted the State Large Group Competition for band and choir. The Golden Hawks welcomed 14 bands and 19 choirs from a total of 14 schools on Saturday, May 4.
Receiving one of the best scores of the night was the Mid-Prairie Mixed Choir with 110 points out of a possible 120. The performance earned the Golden Hawks a Division 1 Superior Rating, and was matched by only one other school. Choirs were evaluated on tone quality, rhythm, articulation, and other performance factors. Not to be outdone, the Mid-Prairie Concert Band earned a Division 1 Superior Rating as well with their playing of “Where the Black Hawk Soars”, “April”, and “Exaltation”.
The Golden Hawk’s Mixed Choir was accompanied by Luetta Ropp and directed by Collette McClellen. The Concert Band was directed by David Kunz.
