The No. 6 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team started the new season with a statement win Wednesday, beating Class 4A Davenport West on the road 8-0. Things were scoreless until the fourth when the Golden Hawks broke through with two runs and the bats wouldn’t go silent the rest of the night, scoring once in each of the fifth and sixth innings for insurance and closing the door with a four run seventh. The Hawks had nine total hits, two doubles, seven RBI and were a perfect three for three in stolen bases. Individually on offense, Brady Weber and Landry Gingerich each had two hits, Brock Harland had three RBI, Weber two and Weber and Blake Swart each scored twice.

The pitching was in mid-season form, the junior duo of Tatem Telfer and Weber went all seven combined, giving up just four hits, walking two and punching out a dozen. Telfer got credit for the win. Following the victory, the Golden Hawks are 1-0 ahead of a contest tonight in Wellman against Highland that you can hear live on KCII with the Roder Epoxy pregame show at 6:30p.m.
