For the first time since 2014, students in the Columbus Community School District will be putting on a musical. Wildcat seventh and eighth graders are set to perform “Shrek Jr.” on Tuesday, May 21.

The production is made up of more than 40 students who have been rehearsing for this day since February. Kalley Deese, who plays Princess Fiona in the musical, describes Shrek Jr. to KCII. “It starts out with an ogre and he lives alone when suddenly a whole bunch of fairy tale creatures come in and take over his swamp. By then he has a goal to get them out of his swamp which leads them to rescuing somebody.”

Shrek Jr. will be shorter than the traditional Broadway version, but still features all of the favorite characters from the movie. Directed by Scott Teater, this is a one-night-only performance, beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Columbus Auditorium. Tickets for the musical are $6 for adults and $3 for students and will be available at the door.
