KCII News spoke with US Senator Chuck Grassley to get his thoughts on the aid that was given to Ukraine “In 1993, Russia, the United States and England, thought we ought to reduce the number of countries that have nuclear weapons. So in order to encourage Ukraine to give up their nuclear weapons, which they did, the three countries signed an agreement called the Budapest Agreement of ‘93. That they would respect the sovereignty of Ukraine. Well, Russia has invaded Ukraine, violating that very agreement that they signed for Ukraine to give up its nuclear weapons. So obviously, if the United States guaranteed the sovereignty of Ukraine, and we are helping them to defend themselves against the Russians, it seems to me we are keeping our moral obligation to an agreement we signed. And when Russia doesn’t respect the same sovereignty, we ought to help Ukraine.“ US Secretary of State Blinken announced the additional aid in Kyiv on Wednesday. The United States will provide an additional $2 billion in aid to Ukraine.
