Saturday was the last day of the 2024 State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines, held at Drake Stadium. Fifteen teams from the listening area competed at State this year. Medalists for area teams this year included Mid Prairie’s Jayden Stafford as State Champion in the wheelchair 100, 200, 400, and 800, Landon Sullivan 4th in long jump, and Burke Berry 7th in shot put. The Mid-Prairie Girl’s Danielle Hostetler placed 4th in the 1500 and 6th in the 3000. Distance Medley runners Dakota Mitchell, Emma Lueck, Jovi Evans, Danielle Hostetler also placed 4th. Joni Evans placed 5th in both the 100 and 200 finals. The 4X100 team of Dakota Mitchell, Myli Hershberger, Emma Lueck, Jovi Evans placed 8th, and the 4×800 team of Greta Sieren, Annika Poll, Brooklyn Stutzman, Danielle Hostetler also placed 8th. Washington Boys Josh Anderson came in 2nd in the Wheelchair 100 and 3rd in both the 200 and 400. Anderson placed 5th in the Wheelchair shot put. For the Washington Girls, Ryen Pepper placed 4th in the 400 hurdles. Hillcrest Academy Boys Owen Scott placed 3rd in Long Jump and Hillcrest Academy Girls Rya Scott placed 6th in the 100. Lone Tree Girls Addison McCullough, Rylee Shield, Vivian Zaruba, Ava Christofferson placed 5th in the 4×200.. The Columbus Boys 4×100 finals team of Juan Chairez, Riley Kaalberg, Lamar Ceant, Kaden Amigon placed 2nd. Russell Coil placed 3rd in shot put, and Alexander Rees placed 7th in the 110 hurdles. The shuttle hurdles team of Johnathan Miranda, Riley Kaalberg, Alexander Rees, Lamar Ceant placed 8th. Winfield Mt Union Boys distance medley team of Sheaden Adams, Ty Scorpil, Gabriel Hemsworth, Kohlby Newsom placed 4th, 400 hurdles runner Gabriel Hemsworth placed 5th, and the 4×400 team of Sheaden Adams, Kohlby Newsom, Ty Scorpil, Gabriel Hemsworth placed 6th.
