At approximately 5:57 Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service Quad Cities office issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Washington, northwestern Henry, eastern Jefferson, and Louisa counties in the KCII listening area. Shortly after, an additional Thunderstorm Warning was issued for portions of Keokuk, Iowa, and Johnson counties.

Radar-indicated threats with these storms included 60 mph winds and inch-in-diameter hail. One inch of rainfall was reported in Washington and Keota, one and a half inches of rain fell in Columbus Junction, and Winfield received 2 inches. Both warnings expired at approximately 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Three members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team provided live coverage on the air. Had the power gone out, coverage would have continued with KCII’s backup generator. The one to count on for severe weather action coverage is AM and FM KCII.
