The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team is one win away from their first State Tournament trip in a decade. The Golden Hawks travel to Iowa City tonight to meet the rival Regina Regals in the Class 1A Substate seven finals. Mid-Prairie advanced to this point in the playoffs by beating Sigourney-Keota in their opener 3-0 and Monday, knocking off Hillcrest Academy on the road 2-1 in the Substate semis, behind a goal each from Tucker Miller and Sawyer Hough, assists from Miller and Peyton Fox and a six save night in goal for Joe Hall. Mid-Prairie comes into the night with a 10-7 overall record, they have outscored their opponents 30-27 on the season in total with 299 shots, 145 on goal, 63 corner kicks, 24 assists and 112 saves with an 81% team save percentage. Team leaders include, Fox with seven goals, Miller with six assists and Hall with 94 saves and an 82% save percentage.

Iowa City Regina is 14-3 this season. The Regals are ranked No. 2 in Class 1A in the final poll of the year from the Iowa High School Athletic Association. After a first round bye, they took down Pella Christian 4-1 in the Substate semifinals Monday behind two goals from Quinn Warren and one each for Thor Olso and Evan White with assists for Drew Greve, Jack Hoover and Ty Joss. On the season, the Regals have outscored their opponents 71-11 in total. Individual leaders include Warren and Hoover with 16 goals each, and Hoover with 12 assists.

These two teams met April 29th with Regina scoring a 3-1 win. The Regals have won eight of the last nine in the series with the Hawks last victory coming in 2015. The winner of tonight’s contest advances to the Class 1A State Tournament. The Hawks last trip to State came in 2014.
