The Washington County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, on the agenda was a proclamation designating May 19th through 25th as Emergency Medical Services Week. Washington County Interim Ambulance Director Katrina Altenhofen shared her thoughts on the proclamation, “So, EMS began because of the Vietnam War, those at the Vietnam War when they had injuries on the battlefield they received a lot better out of hospital care if you will, then we did in the United States. So we started the process here in the United States. We are a very young healthcare field that continues to grow and continues to have a massive technology, we are kind of an ER on wheels, if you will. We’ve expanded into what used to be mainly that basic life support into advanced life support. We’re a very very young industry, but continue to grow.” The supervisors approved the proclamation naming this week as Emergency Medical Services Week.
