The Highland Huskies started the new softball season with a bang, beating Iowa City West 10-0 in five innings Monday night in Riverside. Highland raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, including senior Sarah Burton hitting a lead-off home run on the first pitch of the game, and the Huskies more than doubled that advantage by the second frame on their way to an early victory.

Burton finished with two hits, two runs scored and three stolen bases for Highland, while junior Lilly Barre also had pair of knocks on her way to three runs and a run batted in.

Huskies senior Peyton Brun also scored three runs and had an RBI while picking up two steals. Senior pitcher Grace Prybil allowed only three hits and struck out seven in a complete-game shutout. Highland will look to move to 2-0 when they open conference play tonight by hosting Pekin.
