The KCII Severe Weather Action Team took the air early Friday morning for a round of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Washington County and southeast Iowa. At 3:37, the initial warning was issued for the majority of Washington County along with northeastern Keokuk, southeastern Iowa, southern Johnson and northwestern Louisa Counties. The warning was re-issued three times throughout the morning at 4:15 and 4:45a.m. Rardar-indicated threats with these storms included 60mph wind gusts and anywhere from quarter to golf-ball-sized hail.

The second round of coverage began at approximately 5:57 a.m. Friday when a Tornado Warning was issued for Washington County. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning would also go into effect for each of the seven counties in the KCII listening area, and was re-issued until 7:15 and 7:45 a.m. Spotter-indicated and law enforcement confirmed tornadoes were located in Kinross, Wellman, Kalona, and near Lone Tree. Outbuilding damage near Wellman was among the initial reports, as well as tree damage in Washington, Wellman, and along Iowa 22 between Kinross and Wellman. The City of Washington observed one and a half inches of rainfall.

Four members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team responded to the storm, had the power gone out, coverage would have continued with our emergency backup generators. The one to count on for up to the minute severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
