The Lone Tree Lions picked up their first victory of the baseball season Thursday night by knocking off Springville 2-0. In a pitcher’s duel on the road, Lone Tree was able to push across the game’s only tallies when senior Ethan Bockelman and junior Brody Magruder crossed home plate in the third inning.

From there, pitching would dominate to lead the Lions to the win. Junior Jack Patterson got the start and the victory on the mound, pitching the first four innings and allowing only one hit and one walk while also racking up eight strikeouts.

Sophomore Emmett Burke earned a nine-out save by yielding only two hits and a walk and also striking out eight over the final three frames. Burke, Bockelman and Magruder were joined by senior Harry Brenneman and freshmen Brock Nebergall and Hogan Eden in each having a base hit as Lone Tree bounces back from losing its opener against West Liberty.
