The Highland Huskies picked up a pair of conference victories on the diamond Thursday against Pekin. Highland softball cruised to an 11-0 win, using a six-run third inning to go and end the game after five frames.

Peyton Brun led the Husky linep with two hits, while fellow senior Sarah Burton and junior Lilly Barre each scored three times and sophomore Mackenzie Davis crossed home plate twice.

Highland eighth-grader Kamryn Fink came through with a double, a run scored and one run batted in, while junior pitcher Grace Prybil allowed just one hit and struck out three in a complete-game effort that helped the Huskies start the season 2-0.

Highland baseball responded in the late stages, as, despite a 2-0 deficit through two innings, the Huskies tied the game in the sixth and sent the game into extra innings.

It would take until the eighth, but Highland would break through and get the walk-off win, bouncing back from an 0-2 start to the season. Both Husky teams return to action tomorrow night against Lousia-Muscatine.
