As ample amounts of rain continue to fall throughout Iowa, the State’s drought outlook is the best it’s been in over two years.

According to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Mitigation Center, severe drought has been completely eradicated in Iowa over the last week, something that hasn’t happened since March 2022. That just leaves areas of moderate drought, the lowest rating on the intensity scale, and some regions classified as abnormally dry. In the KCII listening area, moderate drought or abnormally dry conditions can only be found in Keokuk, Iowa, and Johnson counties.

Last year, Iowa received just over two feet of precipitation, the 22nd driest year on record. Already in 2024, some regions have seen as many as 17 inches. To view the drought outlook in your county, or the rest of the State, click here.
