KCII News spoke with US Senator Chuck Grassley on the importance of Memorial Day and his message to the public, “Well, first of all, we have two days that honor Veterans, one Memorial Day for those deceased, and we have Veterans Day in November, for those who are alive and still serving, and we want to honor their service. For the people that gave their ultimate sacrifice, their life for the defense of freedom and the liberties that we all enjoy, we should be thoughtfully approaching their memory. And that’s what Memorial Day is all about.” Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Since 1971, it has been observed on the last Monday of May.
