The Washington Demon baseball team came up just short Friday night in a 5-4 loss at Solon. Washington scored right away in the top of the first and would tie the game up at two in the second. Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, the Demons would again even the score, but the Spartans would walk it off for the victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Mason Morgan hit a double and had a run batted in for Washington, while fellow junior Luke Schiebel and sophomore Caden Greiner each had a hit, a run scored and a stolen base. Juniors Aaron Boone and Cole Vetter also each scored, while senior Caleb Zieglowsky came up with an RBI.

Starting pitcher Conner Leyden gave up just two earned runs on four hits and a walk in three innings, while freshman Brady Krantz hurled the final four frames and had four strikeouts and five hits allowed.

The Demons drop to 1-2 to start the season, with their next game tomorrow night when they start conference play by facing Mount Pleasant in a road doubleheader. You can hear both games starting at 5 p.m. tomorrow on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on the KCII app and KCIIradio.com.
