The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team travels to Tipton Tuesday for a road doubleheader with the Tigers. The Golden Hawks are 4-1 on the season, coming off of their first setback, an 8-5 Thursday loss to Class 4A Ottumwa in Wellman. The Hawks are ranked No. 5 in this week’s Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A poll, up one spot from a week ago. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .320 as a team with a .471 OBP and .426 slug with 41 total runs, 39 hits, 32 RBI and 30 walks. Offensive leaders include Brady Weber hitting .533 with a team best eight hits. Tatem Telfer has team high totals with eight driven in and six runs scored. As a pitching staff, the Golden Hawks have a 1.53ERA with a .161 opponent batting average, 19 hits and 13 runs allowed with 25 walks and 46 strikeouts. Leaders there are Brady Weber, Landry Gingerich, Brock Harland, Conner Wiles and Brooks Weber, who all have spent time on the mound without allowing an earned run. Tatem Telfer has 16 strikeouts through seven innings, Harland, Bowen Burmeister, Telfer and Carson Pence all have recorded wins.
Tipton is 1-3 this season, they were beaten Thursday at Iowa City Regina 16-5. On the year, the Tigers are hitting .193 as a group with a .281 on base percentage and .241 slug with 12 total runs on 16 hits, 11 RBI and nine walks. At the plate, Ian Spangler is hitting .444 with four hits, and three runs scored, all team leading marks. Braydon Colander leads with three driven in. On the mound for the Tigers it’s a 7.95 staff ERA with a .237 opponent average, 33 hits and 49 runs allowed with 27 walks and 13 strikeouts. Top arm Jett Kamberling with a three ERA in 12 innings with 10 strikeouts. He has the only pitching win for the Tigers. Mid-Prairie has won 23 of the last 31 between these two teams, including a three game sweep last season by a combined 30-8 score.
