Two men were arrested in Columbus Junction on Sunday after an altercation led to shots being fired. At approximately 4:04 a.m. on May 26, the Columbus Junction Police Department and Louisa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at 201 ½ Main Street.

According to a press release from the Columbus Junction Police Department, it was determined that a physical altercation took place and a handgun had been brandished. One of the parties in the altercation was leaving the area in a vehicle, along with a female and small child when 25-year-old Elijah M. Doss of Burlington fired multiple shots at the vehicle. No injuries were reported, but damage was sustained to the victim’s vehicle and to the Washington State Bank Building.

Doss was taken into custody without incident at 6:53 a.m. He was charged with attempted murder, a class B felony, two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, each a class C felony, two counts of criminal mischief, each a class D felony, going armed with intent, also a class D felony, child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor, and reckless use of a firearm, also an aggravated misdemeanor. He was taken to the Louisa County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing for Doss is scheduled for Friday, June 7

Additionally, 24-year-old Jonathan Martinez of Winfield was arrested in relation to the original altercation and charged with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor, disorderly conduct and public intoxication, both simple misdemeanors. He was taken into custody without incident and his preliminary trial will be Tuesday, June 18.

Also assisting in the case was the Louisa County Attorney’s Office, Burlington Police Department, and West Liberty Police Department.
