The last week saw more rainfall and cooler temperatures across Iowa, continuing to improve the State’s drought conditions. For the first time since July of 2020, Iowa is drought-free.
According to the scale from the U.S. Drought Mitigation Center, drought conditions range from D1, moderate drought, up to D4, exceptional drought. Over the last four years, Iowa had experienced that, plus everything in between, but what was left of the moderate drought area receded this week. There are some portions of the State that are classified as abnormally dry, or D0 and this includes northern Johnson and Iowa counties.
