Sigourney baseball is still undefeated after cruising past English Valleys last night 15-0. A nine-run third inning put the Savages in complete control, and five more runs in the next innings allowed them to end the game early after four frames.

Senior Reid Molyneux was one of the leaders of the Sigourney lineup, finishing with two hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Freshman Chase Clarahan had two hits, including a double, and three RBI for the Savages, while junior Caden Clarahan needed a lone hit to come up with four driven in.

Junior Cole McKay scored four times and had two stolen bases for Sigourney, while senior Jake Moore pitched all four innings and allowed only one hit. Moore also racked up eight strikeouts as the Savages improve to 3-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 6-0 overall.

Sigourney went into last night off of a 9-4 victory Wednesday at Iowa Valley. Four runs in the second inning stretched the Savages’ early advantage to 5-0, and another three in the sixth would put the game out of reach.

Caden Clarahan had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Sigourney, while Molyneux and freshman Lincoln Power each drove in a run on one hit and scored twice. Caden Clarahan was also the starting and winning pitcher, yielding two runs on three hits and five walks over six-plus innings but striking out 13.

Sigourney softball also defeated Iowa Valley by a final score of 11-0 Wednesday night. The second-ranked team in the state in Class 1A scored three runs each in the first, third and fourth innings before getting a pair in the sixth to end the game early on the road.

Junior Josephine Moore had a big night for the Savages, blasting two home runs as part of a four-hit, four-RBI night. The former all-state catcher also scored three times, as did shortstop Dani Aller, while fellow junior Ava Fisch crossed home plate twice and senior Erin Dawson had a two-hit game with one run batted in.

All-state pitcher Carly Goodwin allowed just one hit and struck out 15 as Sigourney improves to 3-1 in conference play and 4-1 overall. Both Savage teams are back on the diamond tonight when they host another conference rival in Colfax-Mingo.
