The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team came up short against No. 11 in Class 4A Burlington Friday, falling in Kalona 11-0 in six innings. The Grayhounds broke the scoreless tie by sending 10 hitters to the plate in the second and pushing across five runs on four hits. They would add on a single insurance run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and end things early with a three spot in the sixth. The Hawks had a hard time getting anything going against Burlington ace Saydee Plummer, who took a no-hitter into the fifth before a Kyla Karnes double and Tessa Bombei infield single broke up the bid.
Mid-Prairie was out hit in total 13-2 and committed three errors. Seven of the nine in the Burlington order scored a run and seven of the nine had a hit. Plummer went six shut out innings in the circle with 10Ks and belted two homers at the plate. The win keeps the Grayhounds unbeaten at 4-0, while the Hawks fall to 3-3.
