The Sigourney Savage baseball team is still unbeaten after knocking off Colfax-Mingo 15-5 Friday night. Sigourney scored five times in the second inning to take a lead they would never relinquish, scoring another six runs in the sixth to end the game.

The Savages are now 7-0, including a 4-0 mark in the South Iowa Cedar League. Sigourney will put their undefeated start on the line Monday night against defending conference champion Lynnville-Sully, who is also perfect going into the weekend and was ranked third in Class 1A in the latest state poll by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Savage softball also defeated Colfax-Mingo Friday evening 8-1. Sigourney broke up a tie game at one with five runs in the third and never looked back. Senior Carly Goodwin’s fingerprints were all over the win, as she blasted both a home run and a triple while also scoring two runs and finishing with four runs batted in.

Meanwhile, Dani Aller scored twice as well for the Savages, while fellow junior Josephine Moore had a pair of RBI. Moore was also the winning pticher for Sigourney, throwing a complete game and allowing just two hits and three walks.

Moore also racked up 12 strikeouts as the Savages, ranked second in Class 1A softball, improve to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Sigourney softball is playing in a tournament this weekend at Oskaloosa.
