The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team steps outside of River Valley Conference play Tuesday to square off with the Solon Spartans in Wellman. The Golden Hawks are 10-1 on the season, 8-0 in the RVC after a sweep of Wilton Monday by 9-5 and 2-1 scores. The Hawks are ranked No. 5 in the latest Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie is hitting .320 as a team with a .490OBP and .415 slug. The Hawks have 94 runs on 88 hits with 78 walks and 62 strikeouts. Individual leaders include Bowen Burmeister with a .406 average. He and Tatem Telfer each have a team best 13 hits. Telfer has a club high 15 RBI and Brady Weber has scored 13 times. On the mound, the Hawks have a staff ERA of 1.68 with opponents hitting .167 against them with 43 hits, 17 earned runs 102Ks and 50 walks. Individually, Burmeister, Weber, Gentry Bontrager, Telfer and Brooks Weber all have ERAs under two with Burmeister, Brock Harland, and Telfer all recording multiple wins.
Solon is 10-3 this year, 6-1 in the WAMAC Conference. They split a doubleheader with the Marion Wolves Monday, falling 15-0 but rebounding for an 11-10 win in the nightcap. Solon is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Coaches Association. The Spartans hit .310 together with a .423OBP and .416 slug, totaling 80 runs on 96 hits with 53 walks and strikeouts each. Individually, Brett White is at .452 with 19 runs scored to lead. Gehrig Turner has 17 total hits and Maddox Kelley 15RBI. On the mound the Spartan staff ERA is 2.13 with a .165 opponent average, 54 hits, 23 earned runs 37 walks and 56Ks. Tyson Wheeler, Vince Steinbrech and Jackson Link all have ERAs under two in a combined 40 innings with a collective 6-1 record. These teams have split their last four meetings with the Spartans winning on their home diamond last year 7-6.
