The Keota Eagles knocked off Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont baseball last night 8-5. Keota grabbed the initial lead with a run in the second but allowed five runs to Eddyville in the fifth.

Fortunately, the Eagles would wake up the bats in a big way down the stretch. Trailing 5-2 in the sixth, Keota scored six runs to go in front and would get the last three outs needed to put away a win that helps them improve to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the South Iowa Cedar League.

This came on the heels of the Eagles knocking off Colfax-Mingo 4-1 Wednesday. Keota scored once in the first, twice in the third and once in the fourth and would tamp down the Tigerhawks the rest of the way.

Eagle senior Evan Vittetoe came up with a pair of doubles and had two runs batted in, while eighth-grader Blake Baker had a hit and a RBI and seniors Cole Kindred and Tanner Waterhouse each scored a run. Waterhouse got the start and pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs on four hits and two walks while also striking out eight.

Keota softball also knocked off Colfax-Mingo 13-10. After allowing four runs in the top of the first, the Eagles scored three times in the bottom half. Still trailing 6-4 in the fifth, Keota exploded for seven runs and stayed in front the rest of the night.

After 44 consecutive losses, the Eagles came up with a victory that helps them move to 1-5 in conference play and 1-6 overall. Both Keota teams are back on the diamond tonight against HLV.
