lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions rolled to a 10-0 victory on the baseball diamond Thursday night against Louisa-Muscatine. Lone Tree scored two runs in the first inning at home and had more than doubled their lead to 5-0 by the third, with a four-spot in the fifth and one more run in the sixth allowing the Lions to end the game an inning early.

Junior Maddox Jondle came up with a hit and scored a team-high three runs for Lone Tree, while junior Jack Patterson and sophomore Emmett Burke had one hit and one run scored each. Patterson also had two runs batted in, while Burke came up with four stolen bases. Patterson pitched all six innings and allowed no hits, yielding just a single walk and coming up with three strikeouts.

Lone Tree exploded on offense Friday night to earn a 15-12 victory over Wapello. Already leading 5-2 after two innings, the Lions put another five runs on the board in the top of the third.

Wapello scored three times to cut the lead in half, but the road team would stretch their advantage to 13-5 by the bottom of the fifth. While the Indians scored five runs in the fifth to get closer, they would never fully catch Lone Tree, needing to score twice in the seventh just to get back within three.

The Lions pounded out a whopping 22 hits in the victory, led by senior Ethan Bockelman and junior Brody Magruder each swatting a double and coming up with four total hits. Bockelman scored four runs, while Magruder had a pair of runs batted in and scored twice.

Patterson and Burke each mixed in a double to three-hit games, with Burke collecting a pair of RBI and Patterson driving in three. Freshman Brock Nebergall added three hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

A three-hit game from Jondle included a double, a RBI and a run scored, while senior Harry Brenneman’s two hits, one run scored and one driven in rounded out a huge night at the plate for Lone Tree. The Lions improve to 2-2 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 2-5 overall. Up next is a matchup with Highland on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Lone Tree softball suffered its first loss of the season Thursday by falling to Louisa-Muscatine 20-3. After starting the season 5-0, the Lions will now look for a bounce-back when they play in games Saturday at Central City.
