The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released an update on the shooting that took place in Washington last month.

On Wednesday, May 29, the Sheriff’s Office reported that a shooting had occurred in the early morning hours at 2705 Airport Road. One victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, and is in stable condition.

According to a press release Thursday, during the course of the investigation 19-year-old Mitchell Ryan Rodriguez of Washington was identified and interviewed. Rodriguez was later located and arrested on Tuesday, June 4 on outstanding warrants in Washington County. He was charged with attempted murder, a class B felony, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony, dominion or control of a firearm by a felon, class D felony, and going armed with intent, also a class D felony. Martinez remains in custody at the Washington County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

The incident and investigation were assisted by the Washington Police Department, Washington EMS, Washington County Conservation, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. KCII will have more information as it becomes official.
