It’s summer celebration season, as area communities come together to enjoy the warm weather, each others’ company, and countless festivities. Keota is getting in on the action this weekend with Keota Fun Days.
The annual celebration begins on Friday, June 14. Keota City Administrator, Alycia Horras, shared some of the fan favorites that will be returning that day. “We’re gonna have our barbecue cookoff and this year it is the Dan Flynn Memorial Barbecue Cookoff. Those guys will be out there smoking meat and cooking all day long. In the evening, about 5:30 they’re gonna start serving that for free-will donations and all of those proceeds go to our aquatic center. The other thing that we’re gonna bring back is our pie cookoff. They’ll do the pie cookoff and some judging and then they’ll announce the awards and do a pie auction in the evening.” Also on Friday evening is the kids parade, pedal pull, and horseshoe tournament. The Keota Historical Museum will be open from 6-8 p.m. and a street dance caps off the day in front of the Roost at 9.
Things only get busier on Saturday, June 15. The Keota Fun Run starts at 8 a.m. at 225 East Broadway with registration at 7:30. This is to be followed by the Grand Parade down Broadway at 11. Residents and guests of all ages will have plenty to keep them entertained throughout the day, with food trucks, an ice cream social, foam party, and a cornhole tournament. Live music from Brass Pear wraps up Saturday and will be behind the Roost from 4-8 p.m.
