The Sigourney Savages beat HLV in both meetings on the diamond Monday night. Sigourney softball waited until the third inning to crack the scoreboard, but the Savages rose up in a big way with six runs in the third and then repeated that effort by scoring seven times in the fourth, ending a 13-0 victory early.

Ava Fisch led the Sigourney lineup with four hits, including two doubles and a triple. The junior also had three runs batted in and two runs scored. Eighth-grader Ella Bruns also had three RBI on just one hit, while juniors Dani Aller and Josephine Moore each had two hits for the Savages and combined to score three times.

Erin Dawson and Amiya Smallwood added two runs scored and two driven in each, while fellow senior Carly Goodwin scored twice and had one hit and one RBI.

Goodwin pitched all four innings for Sigourney and allowed just one hit while also racking up eight strikeouts, helping the Savages improve to 8-1 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 11-4 overall.

Sigourney baseball raced out to a 7-0 lead against HLV before the first inning was over, and six runs in the fourth would allow the Savages to end the games after five frames with a 17-5 win.

Junior Issac Bruns had a big night at the plate for Sigourney, blasting a home run as part of a three-hit game and finishing with three runs batted in and another two scored. Senior Reid Molyneux also cranked a homer and added a double on his way to four RBI, while junior Caden Clarahan also went deep and drove in three.

Junior Cole McKay scored three runs, while senior Jake Moore had three runs batted in and freshman Lincoln Power drove in a pair to power the Savages to 10-2, including a 7-1 conference record.

Meanwhile, both Keota teams would come up short Monday night against Lynnville-Sully. Eagle baseball was shut out in a 10-0 loss that went just five innings, while softball was beaten 20-4 after only five frames.

Keota baseball is now 2-6 in conference action and 5-7 overall, while softball is 1-8 in total and 1-7 in league play. Both Eagle teams are taking on BGM tonight, while both Sigourney squads play this evening against North Mahaska.
