The U.S. Marshal Service informed the Washington Police Department of their arrest of Kevante Demetreus Andrews on arrest warrants related to a shooting incident that occurred in Washington on October 7, 2023. In the October incident, the Washington Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle accident, and gunshots fired near the intersection of East Madison Street and South 9th Avenue. Witnesses provided information that a lone male shooter with a hooded sweatshirt had exited the vehicle fired shots in the direction of a second vehicle and left the area on foot. The vehicles were impounded. Local officers,  with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, recovered additional evidence from both vehicles. As a result of the investigation, Andrews was charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony, Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon, a Class C Felony, and Assault While Displaying A Dangerous Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Arrest warrants with nationwide extradition were issued in late October and the Washington Police Department requested the U.S. Marshal Service assist in locating Andrews as it was believed he had fled the area. On Tuesday, June 11 Andrews was arrested in Monterey County, California. He is being held in the Monterey County Jail awaiting extradition to Washington County. The Washington Police Department was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Conservation, Washington County Communications, Washington County Attorney’s Office, Washington Fire Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Marshal Service.
