The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams travel to River Valley Conference road games Thursday night. The Golden Hawk boys are in Iowa City to take on Regina. The Hawks are 11-5 on the year, 9-2, first place in the River Valley Conference. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 9 in the latest Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. They were beaten Wednesday at Bettendorf 11-5. On the year, the Hawks are hitting .286 as a team with a .459OBP and .368 slug. They have scored 106 runs on 104 hits with 99 walks and 86 strikeouts. Individually, Luke Traetow is hitting .391 to lead. Tatem Telfer has a team best 17 total hits and 16RBI. He and Brady Weber have scored 14 runs. On the mound, Mid-Prairie has a 3.06ERA with a .227 opponent average on 86 hits, 42 earned runs, 74 walks and 129 strikeouts. Telfer is 3-1 with a 2.29ERA. Bowen Burmeister, Brock Harland and Carson Pence all have multiple wins.
Regina is 11-10 on the year, 6-5 in the RVC after an 8-3 win over South Winneshiek Wednesday. The Regals are hitting .297 as a team with a .447OBP and .358 slug, scoring 135 runs on 146 hits with 113 walks and 98 strikeouts. Jack Clark leads at the plate with a .449 average. He is tied with Drew Streb for the team lead with 22 total hits and Connor Nicpon with 19 runs scored. Streb’s 17RBI are best on the team. On the hill, Regina has a 2.54 team ERA with a .234 opponent average on 118 hits, 43 earned runs, 70 walks and 120 strikeouts. Clark, Nicpon and Dean Hanes have each won two games with a combined ERA of 3.30. These two teams have split their last 16 meetings, including a doubleheader Monday where Regina won the first 13-2 and the Hawks took the second 6-5. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at Regina High School.
The Golden Hawk girls are 4-8 on the year and 3-6 in the River Valley ahead of a trip to Durant tonight. The Hawks dropped a game at No. 4 in Class 3A Mount Vernon Tuesday 3-0. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .321 as a group with a .424OBP and .467 slug with 90 runs on 97 hits, 36 walks and 67 strikeouts. Individually, Gabi Robertson, Dakota Mitchell and Sophie Miller are all hitting .400 or better with Robertson leading at .429. Mitchell and Miller are tied with a team best 15 hits, Miller has driven in a team high 15 and Mitchell has scored a team most 18 runs. In the circle, Kadence Grout has compiled a 4-6 record in 48 innings with a .368 opponent average on 81 hits, 30 earned runs, 11 walks and 25Ks for a 4.38ERA.
Durant is 12-8 on the season, 8-2, on top of the River Valley Conference. The Wildcats are ranked No. 13 in the latest Class 2A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Tuesday, they split a doubleheader with No. 2 Northeast Goose Lake, winning 7-4 and falling 9-6. On the year, the Wildcats hold a .334 team average with a .427OBP and .437 slug that includes scoring 140 runs on 165 hits, with 73 walks and 91 strikeouts. Individually, Allison Toft leads with a .468 average and team best 29 hits and 21RBI. Avery Paper has scored 22 times. In the circle, the Wildcats have a 3.92 team ERA and .255 opponent average on 69 earned runs, 81 walks and 89 strikeouts. Isla Peterson is 5-1 with a 4.26ERA. Mid-Prairie has won four of the last five in the series, including taking two of three from the Wildcats a season ago.
