On Monday, the City of Wellman released its 2023 Water Quality Report for Wellman Municipal Waterworks with no violations found in the water supply.
According to the report, the Wellman water source, which is groundwater, contained no traces of lead. Traces of copper, chlorine, fluoride, combined radium, sodium, and nitrates were found, however they were well below the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL). This is the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water, and can often be produced by corrosion of plumbing systems, erosion of natural deposits, or fertilizer runoff.
Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants, however their presence does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. The evaluation was completed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
