The Washington Demons have a chance to win their first conference series of the baseball season tonight when they travel to meet rival Fairfield for a game that you can hear on KCII.

Washington comes into this evening with a record of 2-11 and is coming off back-to-back losses, but the Demons won the first of two games they played Monday at home against Fairfield by a final score of 5-4, giving them a shot at the series victory in tonight’s rubber game.

Washington has leaned on its top-of-the-order hitters on offense. Freshman Blayze Richardson carries a six-game hitting streak into tonight and has a team-high .462 batting average, while senior Luke Beenblossom is hitting .325 with seven runs scored and a Southeast-Conference-leading 11 stolen bases.

Sophomore Kael Williams is batting .297 with nine runs scored and 10 steals as well, while juniors Conner Leyden and Luke Schiebel have also been solid at the plate for the Demons.

Freshman Brady Krantz has been a welcome addition to the pitching staff, posting a team-low 3.21 earned-run average and racking up a team-best 26 strikeouts. Krantz has already quieted the Fairfield bats once, allowing just one earned run in three innings pitched Monday in the win against the Trojans.

Fairfield took Game Two of Monday’s doubleheader 16-1 after only five innings and is 12-4 this season, including a 6-2 record in the Southeast Conference.

Sophomore Dain Burkhart leads the lineup with a .345 batting average and 17 runs batted in, but the Trojans’ greatest strength has been their pitching, which has combined for a 3.16 earned-run average.

Washington is seeking just their third win over Fairfield since 2021. You can catch Demon baseball battle the Trojans this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on the KCII1 app and KCIIradio.com, starting with the Roder Epoxy Pregame Show at 5 o’clock.
