Both Highland Husky teams took losses Wednesday night, as baseball fell to Burlington Notre Dame 17-5 and softball was beaten by Davenport West 6-2.
Highland baseball fell behind the top-ranked team in Class 1A after Notre Dame scored four runs in the first inning. The Huskies would respond by scoring five times in the second, but the Nikes put up five runs of their own in the fourth to retake the lead and would score seven times in the fifth to finish off the victory.
Junior Will Dunbar led the Highland lineup with three hits and also had one run batted in, while junior Logan McFarland came up with two hits and two RBI as the Huskies’ record drops to 6-9.
Highland softball trailed 3-0 by the time they scored their first run in the third inning, and Davenport West would be in front the whole way. Eighth-grader Kamryn Fink led the way at the plate with a hit and two runs scored, but the Huskies nonetheless fall to 7-5.
