Sigourney aims to continue its dominance on the baseball diamond tonight, welcoming Belle Plaine in the KCII Area Game of the Week.

Amid their second win streak of the season, the 10-2 Savages made it four in a row against North Mahaska. The 12-0 victory featured an eight-run fifth inning to end the night early. Caden Clarahan struck out 10 in the shutout, also knocking in three at the plate. Reid Molyneux had three hits, and joined Jake Moore with three RBIs. The Sigourney lineup has proven to be dangerous top to bottom with the fifth best average in 1A at .362. Clarahan’s .590 average and three long balls are both top-10 in his class. Molyneux has wasted none of his senior season, knocking in 18 of the team’s 133 runs, second to only Clarahan. The Savages are getting on base more than half the time and proving to be a problem for many opposing pitchers. Their staff, meanwhile, has featured seven, combining for a 2.84 ERA in a little over 76 innings.

Friday’s foe is Belle Plaine, with its sight set on getting back to .500 on the season. The Plainsmen escaped an 12-11 win over HLV on Wednesday to snap a three-game skid. Two runs in the final frame proved to be the difference in a back-and-forth affair. Nate Hoover went four innings on the mound allowing just one earned run, while Ty Alcott left the yard and was responsible for five on offense. Belle Plaine bats just .210 as a team and averages less than five runs per game. Pitching has kept the Plainsmen in it this season, as five different pitchers have gone for a 3.28 ERA and opponent’s batting average of .195. Sigourney has won nine straight against Belle Plaine, most recently 3-0 back in May.

Tune into the KCII3 Stream tonight for baseball action between the Savages and Plainsmen. Pregame coverage goes live at 5 p.m. with first pitch from Sigourney at 5:30.
