The Highland Huskies edged out Pekin on the baseball diamond Thursday night by a final score of 3-2. Highland trailed most of the night, not cracking the scoreboard until the fifth inning.

But the Huskies made the most of that one inning, as they did all their scoring to rally from a 2-0 deficit and would hold on down the stretch for the win. Pitching led the way for Highland, as junior Colton Sypherd threw a complete game and gave up just one earned run on four hits while also picking up seven strikeouts.

Landon Roling led the Husky lineup with two hits while also finishing the game with one run scored and one run batted in. Fellow freshman Garrett Beeson had two RBI on one hit.

Junior Logan McFarland added a hit and a run scored as Highland improves to 7-9 overall but also 5-2 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

Highland softball rolled to the victory Thursday, powering past Pekin 15-3. The Huskies already led 3-2 when they scored nine runs in the fourth inning, going on to win the game after six frames.

Peyton Brun blasted a home run and had two hits and two runs batted in for Highland. Fellow senior Madison Beeson stroked a double as part of two hits and also drove in two, while senior Courtney Chalupa scored once while adding two hits and two RBI of her own.

Husky senior Sarah Burton managed to score four runs after two hits and two walks, while junior Lilly Barre crossed home plate three times in a two-hit game.
