A pair of KCII area softball teams got together at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids and put on a June fireworks display that saw Hillcrest Academy complete a season sweep of Winfield-Mt. Union 10-7. The Ravens flew to a fast start with four runs in the first inning. WMU answered with three in the top of the third and took their only lead of the night with three more in the fifth at 6-4. In the bottom half, Hillcrest got three more to seesaw back on top 7-6. The Lady Wolves tied it with a single tally in the top of six before the Ravens scored three times in the bottom half to break the tie and take the win.

Hillcrest out hit Winfield-Mt. Union 11-4 in total, the Ravens had four extra base hits including two homers, the Wolves one extra base hit was a home run. The teams combined for seven walks and three hit batters. Delaney Shaw led the Raven bats with three total hits and four driven in including a homer and scored a run. Malia Yoder also smacked a homer, had two hits, scored three times and drove in three. Kylee Statler had a pair of hits with three RBI. Claire Withrow and Morgyn Nafziger each had two hits and scored twice. Yoder was the winning pitcher, going seven innings, giving up two hits, seven runs, none earned, three walks and 13 strikeouts. For the Wolves, Quinn Smith cracked a homer and drove in three on two hits and scored twice. Makiah Lower also had an RBI on a hit. Jessi Renken also scored twice. Lower worked six innings with nine hits, 10 runs, one walk and 12Ks. Hillcrest is now 6-6 on the year as WMU falls to 4-9.
