Washington’s Randy Huertero has been recognized as one of the top boys’ soccer players in the state. The senior was named an honorable mention all-state selection in Class 3A by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Huertero had just one goal and one assist for the Demons this season, but he started every game as a center defender and was a crucial part of a historic season for Washington.
The Co-Player of the Year in the Southeast Conference helped the Demons win 11 matches and just the second conference championship in school history. Washington also reached the finals of their substate playoff bracket before falling to Cedar Rapids Xavier.
In addition to Huertero’s honors, three Washington seniors were named academic all-state. Lane Schrock made the second team, while Brayan Arreola and Manny Raymundo were honorable mentions.
The Demons received an Excellence in Academic Achievement award from the Iowa High School Athletic Association this spring for having a combined team grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
