The No. 9 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team turned their College World Series trip into a business trip Friday, beating Council Bluffs St. Albert 14-3. The Hawks trailed 1-0 after one and took control of the contest with six runs in the second and never looked back. After the Falcons got within 6-2 after two, Mid-Prairie added two in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to finish the win.
Mid-Prairie pounded out 15 total hits, five for extra bases, including four doubles and a triple. The Hawks also earned five walks and the Falcons committed three errors. Bowen Burmeister, Landry Gingerich and Brooks Weber each had three RBI and two hits apiece. Burmeister and Gingerich each scored twice, Weber once. Joe Hall had two RBI with a pair of hits. Brady Weber drove in one on three hits, while scoring three times. Carson Pence was the winner on the mound with three innings of five hit ball, giving up two earned runs. Kurt Schneider and Conner Wiles each worked two innings in relief. Mid-Prairie is now 12-6 this year, St. Albert falls to 7-12. The Hawks are back in action Monday for a doubleheader at West Liberty.
