The Washington Demons are back on the baseball diamond tonight to start a conference series with a doubleheader at Keokuk, and you can hear both games on KCII.

Washington comes into this evening with a record of 2-11, but that includes their first Southeast Conference victory of the season coming last week against Fairfield. Freshman Blayze Richardson leads the Demons with a .462 batting average, while senior Luke Beenblossom has the most hits and stolen bases on the team.

Freshman pitcher Brady Krantz has also been a bright spot for Washington with a team-low 3.21 earned-run average and a team-high 26 strikeouts. Demons head coach T.J. Rausch tells KCII Sports that his pitching staff will need to be in top form against Keouk and all of their conference foes.

“They’re scrappy,” Rausch says. “I think most of our conference opponents are scrappy hitters. They’re kind of grinders that are not going to strike out a lot. They’re going to put the ball in play [and] they’ve got some decent speed that, [when] they put the ball in play, they’re going to run it out. So it’s just going to come down to making good quality pitches, just trying to find some weak contact, and then just making plays behind [pitchers].”

Washington will be facing a Chiefs team that swept them in last year’s series and lost their last game Saturday to Hillcrest Academy. You can catch a double take of Demon baseball this evening in Keokuk on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app, starting with the Roder Epoxy Pregame Show at 5 o’clock.
