At their June 13 meeting, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors approved a bid for a culvert construction project, which should begin in the coming weeks.

The area in question is a portion of Sharon Center Road SW between Highway 1 and Kansas Avenue SW. This section of roadway has been closed for the last month. Last Thursday, the Supervisors approved a bid from Boomerang Corp. out of Anamosa in the amount of $284,380. The County also received bids from Iowa Bridge and Culvert L.C. of Washington, Taylor Construction Inc. of New Vienna, Tschiggfrie Excavating Co. of Dubuque, and Keokuk Contractors, Inc.

Supervisor Rod Sullivan, spoke briefly about the plans to get work started now that the bid has been accepted. “We know this is closed and we are working as quickly as we can to get this back open so this is a fairly expedited project and we’re hopeful that they’ll get it done ASAP.”

While they plan to get to work soon, no official start date has been set.
