Fresh off of their weekend trip to the College World Series in Omaha the Mid-Prairie baseball team took one of two in a River Valley Conference road series at West Liberty Monday. The Hawks won the first 6-2 and dropped the second 9-1. In the opener, Mid-Prairie pulled away methodically, scoring twice in the first and adding on single insurance tallies in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Hawks out hit the comets 9-2 in total and drew six walks. Dylan Henry led the way at the plate with four driven in on a hit. Bowen Burmeister and Blake Swart each had an RBI. Burmeister had two hits and scored twice. Tatem Telfer and Luke Traetow each had a pair of hits. Traetow scored twice. Telfer got the win on the hill, going three and two thirds with one hit, two earned runs, six walks and nine Ks. Kale Miller worked the final three and a third to finish the win, giving up just one knock.

In the nightcap, the Comets jumped in front with three runs in the third and a five spot in the fourth. They added on one more in the sixth. The Hawks got on the board in the seventh when Joe Hall doubled in Brock Harland. Mid-Prairie out hit West Liberty 6-5, but couldn’t overcome four costly errors. Harland led with two hits and scored the lone run. Brady Weber took the loss on the mound, going three and a third with six hits and three earned runs on two walks and seven strikeouts. Carson Pence threw the final two and two thirds. After the split, Mid-Prairie is 10-4 in the River Valley, West Liberty is 6-4.
