The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams have afternoon action in Kalona Wednesday when they welcome the Central Lee Hawks for a crossover Southeast Iowa Superconference series. The Raven girls are 7-9 overall this year, 5-5 in conference, after a 5-3 loss at Lone Tree Tuesday. On the season, Hillcrest is hitting .298 as a team with a .409OBP and .416 slug with 112 runs on 111 hits, 70 walks and 115 strikeouts. Individually, three Ravens are batting .400 or better, led by Malia Yoder at .533 with a team best 24 total hits and 23 runs scored. Delaney Shaw has driven in a team high 22 this season. In the circle, Yoder has worked every inning but one, with a 7-9 record and 4.94ERA, allowing a .224 batting average on 102 hits, 59 earned runs 57 walks and 121 strikeouts.
Central Lee is 15-5 this year, 5-1 in the South Division of the Superconference. They were beaten 12-2 on Tuesday by Washington. This year the Hawks are hitting .412 together with a .482OBP and .588 slug with 190 runs on 211 hits, 62 walks and 42 strikeouts. Individually, three players are hitting .500 or better, led by Kenna Sandoval at .600 with a team best 33 hits. Shanna Buford has scored 31 times to lead and driven in a team high 29. Elaina Barlow and Jayln Hawk have split time almost equally in the circle with a collective .248 opponent average on 121 hits, 62 earned runs, 49 walks and 61Ks to go with a 3.82ERA. Central Lee has won 10 of the last 12 in the series including six straight and a 15-0 victory last year. The Ravens last win came in 2016.
The Hillcrest boys are 11-2 this year with a 7-1 mark, leaders in the Superconference North Division. They doubled up Lone Tree in a Tuesday road win 10-5. The Ravens hit .285 as a club with a .418OBP and .395 slug with 118 runs on 107 hits, 15 walks and 89 strikeouts. Five Raven batters are .300 or better led by Rowan Miller at .487 with team bests of 19 hits and 17RBI. Liam Schrock and Seth Ours share the lead with 19 runs scored. The Hillcrest team ERA is 3.04 with a .226 opponent average on 75 hits, 37 earned runs, 28 walks and 80 punch-outs. Liam Schrock, Rowan Miller and Seth Ours are a combined 9-1 with a 2.20ERA.
Central Lee is 9-5 this year, 4-4 in the Superconference after dropping a game Tuesday, 11-4, to top ranked in 1A Burlington Notre Dame. On the year, the Hawks hit .312 with a .435OBP and .438 slug with 107 runs on 114 hits, 46 walks and 64 strikeouts. Three Hawks are hitting .400 or better, paced by Blake Davis at .426 with 20 hits. Zach Manwill has a team high 14RBI and Gage VanAusdall and Manwill have each scored 11 times. On the mound, the Central Lee staff ERA is 3.08 with a .177 opponent average on 75 hits, 39 earned runs, 55 walks and 106 strikeouts. Bo Herdich is 3-0 and yet to allow an earned run. The Hawks have won seven of the last 10 over the Ravens, but it was a 5-0 Hillcrest win in the most recent series meeting last season.
