The Washington Demons have a chance for their first series victory of the baseball season when they host conference rival Keokuk for a rubber game at Dick Sotjka Memorial Field that you can hear tonight on KCII.
Washington split their doubleheader Monday at Keokuk, dropping Game One 7-2 but using an 11-run fourth inning to win a 15-11 slugfest in the second game. The Demons pounded out 14 hits in the win, including a huge night from senior Caleb Zieglowsky, who hit his first career home run and finished with six runs batted in.
Zieglowsky has been a stud for Washington at the plate, posting a .476 batting average and compiling 10 total RBI despite missing half the season due to injury.
Freshman Blayze Richardson has also been performing at an all-conference level with the bat, hitting .455 to join Zieglowsky near the top of the Southeast Conference in batting average.
Senior Luke Beenblossom, junior Conner Leyden and sophomore Kael Williams are all hitting above .300 for the Demons, but it hasn’t translated to as many wins as they’d like, as winning Monday’s Game Two was just the third win of the summer for Washington, which is also 2-8 in conference action.
The Demons will duel with a Keokuk team that is 5-9 overall and sports a 3-7 record in league play after the split on Monday. Sophomore Blake Chase crushed his third home run of the season Monday and is batting over .500 for the Chiefs, who have won six of the last eight games in this conference series since 2022.
You can hear Washington baseball conclude their 2024 series with Keokuk live this evening on 106.1 FM KCII as well as streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app, starting with the Roder Epoxy Pregame Show at 7 o’clock.
