Both the Mid-Prairie boys and girls summer teams are on the diamond tonight for River Valley Conference contests. The Golden Hawk boys wrap up their regular season series with the West Liberty Comets. The Golden Hawks are 14-7 on the season and 10-4 in first place in the RVC after a 2-1 start to the week that included a split on the road with the Comets Monday and a non-conference win at Fairfield Tuesday 12-6. The Golden Hawks are receiving votes in this week’s Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. This season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .295 as a team with a .453OBP and .376 slug. They have scored 144 runs on 156 hits with 130 walks and 120 strikeouts. Individually, three Hawks are hitting .300 or better led by Bowen Burmeister and Tatem Telfer both at .385 and 25 total hits. Burmeister has driven in a team best 20 and Brady Weber has a team best 20 runs scored. On the mound, Mid-Prairie has a staff ERA of 3.21 with a .239 opponent average against, giving up 128 hits, 62 earned runs, 96 walks and 63 strikeouts. Telfer leads with four wins and a 2.55ERA. Brock Harland, Carson Pence and Burmeister are all multi-game winners with a combined 3.79ERA.
West Liberty is 10-10 on the season, 6-4, fourth in the River Valley South Division. They have been off since the split with Mid-Prairie Monday. They are hitting .234 collectively with a .369OBP and .296 slug scoring 117 runs on 121 hits with 97 walks and 139 strikeouts. Individually, two Comets are over .300 this year led by Ryker Dengler at .373 to go with his team best 20RBI and 19 total hits. Seth Axsom has scored a team high 16 runs. The Comet staff ERA is 4.51 with a .265 opponent average on 136 hits, 85 earned runs, 81 walks and 106Ks. Joseph Delgado is 3-1 with a 1.83ERA. Mid-Prairie has owned the overall series, winning 31 of the last 36. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman.
The Golden Hawk girls continue the week as road warriors traveling to West Branch for a single contest with the Bears. The Hawks are 6-13 this season, 4-8 in the River Valley after being swept at No. 14 in Class 3A West Liberty Monday by 4-2 and 12-2 scores. This season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .321 as a team with a .411OBP and .436 slug, scoring 115 runs on 139 hits with 43 walks and 79 strikeouts. Three Golden Hawks are over .400 led by Dakota Mitchell with a .434 average on a team best 23 hits with 24 runs scored. Sophie Miller has knocked in a team high 17. In the circle, Kadence Grout owns a 5-8 record in 66 innings with a .362 opponent average on 109 hits, 46 earned runs, 17 walks, 28 strikeouts and a 4.90ERA.
This will be Mid-Prairie’s first look at West Branch this season. The Bears are 5-16 overall and 2-10 in conference play after a sweep at the hands of Iowa City Regina Monday by a combined 24-4 score in two games. On the year, the Bear’s lineup is hitting .273 with a .346OBP and .343 slug, scoring 89 runs on 140 hits, with 47 walks and 107 strikeouts. Individually, Alysse Klinkkammer is far and away the leader at a .449 average on 31 hits and 13 runs scored. Juliana Lang has driven in a team best 11. Klinkkammer also leads in the circle with a 2-1 record, 3.69ERA and .250 opponent average on 34 hits, 16 earned runs, 11 walks and 16 strikeouts. These two teams have split their last 10 meetings with Mid-Prairie winning the most recent 15-1 last June.
