Two Raven juniors have found themselves in the spotlight on the diamond this summer and the state has taken notice. Hillcrest Academy’s Liam Schrock and Seth Ours have both been named to the Class 1A Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Prospect Watch List for Utility players.
Schrock does his work behind the plate, at the plate and on the mound for the Ravens. With the bat he’s hitting .341 with a .491OBP and .591 slug. He has 15 total hits, six for extra bases with two homers, 19 runs scored and 10RBI to go with 11 walks. Behind the plate he’s made only one error all season while throwing out 60% of would-be-base-stealers. On the hill, Schrock has a 2-0 record in 10 innings with a 1.40ERA, WHIP under one, and .171 opponent batting average on six hits and two earned runs with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.
Ours has made an impact at the plate, in the field and on the mound this summer for Hillcrest. In the box, he’s hitting .326 with a .418OBP and .478 slug on 15 total hits, seven for extra bases and eight RBI with 19 runs scored and seven walks. With the glove he has a 94% fielding percentage. On the mound, Ours has worked 26 innings with a 2.69ERA, 1.15WHIP and .245 opponent batting average on 27 hits, 10 earned runs, three walks and 22Ks with a 4-1 overall record.
The Ravens are 11-2 this year, 7-1 and in first place in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division. Deadline for nominations to the 2024 IHSBCA Prospect Showcase is Sunday, June 23rd. The event is held at Southeast Polk High School Saturday, July 27th and features a pro-style tryout for all players with more than 60 college coaches in attendance. This is the 15th season for the event.
