The Washington City Council met Tuesday evening. On the agenda was a discussion to approve an amendment to an agreement between Iowa Renewable Energy and the City for the firefighter foam. Fire Chief Brendan DeLong gave more information, “If you remember a couple of years ago, Iowa Renewable came to us and said they needed to have so many gallons of fire fighting foam on hand, for their facility. So they ended up purchasing that foam, back then and there was an agreement made with us that we would provide or use that, or we could use that at any time that we needed it, for any other facility in our district or when requested. Now, since we have our new foam trailer on hand, they are willing to give it to the fire department at no cost, in exchange for us providing them with foam fire protection indefinitely.”  The Council approved the agreement, and the foam will be kept on the Fire Department’s foam trailer.
