Washington Demon softball finished up a paused game and a series victory over conference rival Fairfield by winning last night 7-2. The game was originally started last Thursday, with Washington falling behind 2-0 after one inning but the rest of the game being postponed after rain moved into Fairfield.

Things resumed yesterday but would stay with Fairfield up by two until the fourth inning, where the Demons struck twice to tie the game. Four runs in the fifth would put Washington on top for good, and the Demons would add an insurance run in the seventh to ensure that they would remain undefeated in the Southeast Conference this season.

One of the biggest swings of the game for Washington came from freshman Colbie Greiner, who hit her first home run of the season and the sixth of her career on her way to coming up with two runs batted in.

Junior Alyvia Anderson had one RBI and one run scored as part of a two-hit game, while sophomore Leighton Salazar led the Demon lineup with three knocks and scored once.

Kendall Hinrichsen came up with a pair of base hits and joined fellow junior Lauren Hinrichsen in scoring twice. Bella Salazar gets credit for a complete game victory in the circle, throwing both days to pitch all seven innings and only allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks.

In addition to being 11-0 in conference play, Washington is now 21-4 overall. The Demons, ranked eighth in the state in Class 3A, will try to stay perfect in the league when they finish up a series with Keokuk tonight.
