drought-45

Despite one of the warmest weeks of summer so far, Iowa continues to be drought-free according to the latest data from the National Drought Mitigation Center.

Measuring on a scale that goes from D0: abnormally dry, to D4: exceptional drought, the KCII listening area as well as the rest of the State have been below D1 since the end of May. This current stretch is the first time since July 2020 that there have been no drought conditions present in Iowa.

Hotter temperatures have expanded the areas that are classified as abnormally dry. This includes the entirety of Louisa, Henry, and Jefferson counties, and at least 60 percent of Washington, Keokuk, Johnson, and Iowa counties.

With highs in the 90s through the weekend, drought conditions could return before the end of the month.
